The Cheltenham Festival marked the start of the 2025 British Social Season and there is much to look forward to over the coming months. The Boat Race, Badminton Horse Trials, Chelsea Flower Show, Glyndebourne and Royal Ascot are among the highlights.

The Season has extended over recent years thanks to the popularity of the key events. Beginning in March, there are many fabulous social occasions throughout spring, summer and autumn. While Cheltenham’s famous horse racing fixture opens The Season, a prestigious literary festival brings it to an end. The Cliveden Literary Festival closes The Season in October and this event attracts high society and powerful figures from the creative industries.

Last year’s festival saw a collaboration between Cliveden and CHANEL, who have also recently been announced as the official timekeepers for The Boat Race 2025. During the 2024 Cliveden Literary Festival, Yana Peel, Global Head of Arts & Culture at Chanel, co-hosted some fascinating events. Speakers at the Cliveden Literary Festival included Ian McEwan, Rachel Weisz, Michael Gove, Tom Holland and many more.

Among the highlights was AI: Triumph or Terror. Chaired by Yana Peel, this event saw an interesting discussion take place between Alexandra Mousavizadeh, Madhumita Murgia and Albert Read. Meanwhile, Emily Maitlis was among guests at the CHANEL dinner and Salman Rushdie was in conversation with novelist Ian McEwan. The Cliveden Literary Festival was established in 2017. It has been very successful and sells out every year. In 2025, the event will take place from 11th – 12th October.

Cliveden Literary Festival has become well known around the world for providing a forum for lively discussion. This is where innovative ideas are discussed and political debate takes place in glorious surroundings. Since the 1660s, Cliveden has been the setting of many dramas that have defined or destabilised the state of the nation.
